Shine the Light! Boca Family Leads the Way

Eric and Susan Lebersfeld made the move from Morristown, New Jersey to sunny SoFla in 2006 so that Eric could work at the Boca Raton branch of his family’s business, Capital Lighting. Eric was happy working at the New Jersey location and the couple never thought that they’d leave, but after a little convincing from Eric’s brother, they decided to give it a chance. “Besides, we could always go back to New Jersey,” the couple reasoned. Almost a year later, Eric and Susan are settling nicely into Boca and soaking up the sun during their many sports activities.

Eric, while working full time as the VP of his family business, still finds the time for the sporting life. Growing up, he participated in soccer, football and wrestling. In college, he took up racquetball and has continued to play ever since. After making the move to Boca last summer, he has started to play tennis as well. “I’m not really an enormous sports fan,” says Eric, “except when it comes to professional football.” While still diehard fans of the Jets and Giants, the family is working on becoming Dolphins and Heat fans as well. Eric explains the family’s emphasis on sports and exercise: “Being active and participating in sports is important for many reasons, it is fun and healthy, it builds self confidence, it’s social and it should teach you how to win and lose with grace and honor.” You can just tell how cool this guy is.

Wife Susan was always involved in sports as well. In high school, she played field hockey, basketball AND softball! While in New Jersey, Susan was a parttime spin instructor for a N.Y. sports club. Since moving to Boca, she has become a spin instructor at Woodfield Country Club and does a little bit of personal training. Susan also somehow finds the time to play tennis 2-3 times a week and compete on the tennis team at The Oaks. “Sports are important to me and my family because it is essential, for cardiovascular reasons, to be in shape and get plenty of exercise. It also teaches you how to be part of a team,” Susan says, “as long as I get to work out each day, I’m happy! What happens when two athletes get together? Eric and Susan rounded out their full lives with their two young children: Jack (7) and Hannah (5). Jack is 2nd grader at St. Andrew’s. “I really like Karate and dodge ball,” says Jack who is a true chip off the ol’ block, “they’re so much fun!” When it comes to professional sports, the Jets and the Giants are the teams that he roots for. You can take the boy to Boca but you can’t get the Jersey outta the kid.

Hannah will be starting Kindergarten at St. Andrew’s in August. “Ballet is my favorite thing to do,” she says “it’s fun!” She especially loves it when her dad makes movies of her ballet recitals so that she can watch them later.

Together, this energetic couple has passed along their love of exercise and healthy living to their children. They keep the family connected through family activities, such as watching professional football and attending each other’s competitions. It doesn’t seem to matter which part of the country this family lives in, they keep active, have so much love for each other and they always remember to have fun!
